چکیده

Vertebral hemangiomas are usually considered as benign tumor mostly characterized by insidious and asymptomatic. A fraction of them referred to symptomatic vertebral hemangiomas (SVHs) can lead to compressive neurological symptoms. We present a case of a 49-year-old male patient diagnosed with thoracic vertebral hemangioma who suffered from severe neurological defects. The atypical radiological appearances of this patient increased the difficulty in making an accurate diagnosis. To minimize the risk of intraoperative nerve injury, total en bloc spondylectomy via anterior-lateral transthoracic approach combined with posterior multisegmental fixation was performed. The clinical results proved to be satisfactory and pathologic biopsy confirmed the final diagnosis of cavernous hemangioma.

Aggressive Vertebral Body Hemangioma Causing Compressive Myelopathy - Two Case Reports

INTRODUCTION Hemangiomas are benign tumors characterized by proliferation of blood vessels. A few hemangiomas are aggressive, characterized by bone expansion and extraosseous extension. These benign tumors may be mistaken for metatasis resulting in unnecessary biopsies, which have a high risk of hemorrhage. These hemangiomas can spread not just into the paraspinal soft tissues but also into the...

Unusual cause of back pain in an adolescent patient: a case report and natural history of aggressive vertebral hemangioma in children.

Back pain is an unusual complaint in children as compared to the adult population but is more likely to be pathological. We present a longitudinal study of an 11-year-old patient who presented with a vertebral hemangioma which remained stable for a period of about 20 months followed by aggressive growth resulting in spinal cord compression. This is only the fourth reported case of aggressive ve...

False-positive FDG PET CT Scan in Vertebral Hemangioma

FDG PET CT scan is considered to be a sensitive tool to detect skeletal metastasis in known malignancies. However, it’s high sensitivity and low specificity may account for false positive diagnosis in cases of trauma, infection, inflammation and other benign conditions. Skeletal hemangioma is one of the common benign conditions which are typically ametabolic on FDG PET CT with no uptake on bone...
